Last Barn Standing

The last barn standing

Well at least in my neighborhood…

I can’t say this is the original barn of Old Stockdale, but I can say it’s the last one standing!! To think this barn used to house a horse in it makes me gitty! Can you imagine a horse right in your own backyard. I don’t know about you, but it’s a dream of mine. I can only imagine what it would have been like to look out her back door and see her horse standing at that white picket fence neighing at her to come out and play. I can picture her standing at the kitchen sink looking out and seeing her horse grazing on the grass. All I know is there is something about horses that feeds your soul and grounds you. They calm your spirit, but they can also make it soar!!!

I never met the family that lived here, but I have heard amazing stories of the young woman who grew up there, that she showed her horse from about 1958 - 1972 (or so the ribbons say) even locally right here in Bakersfield. You can still see the tracks where her trailer would come through and load. There are still remanence of a horse and a young girl in this barn.

I have heard that this woman has since passed and well a very lovely young family has just purchased the property. They love the history here and although the barn will be taken down, the wood is being preserved and repurposed on the property… I just love that! I am so excited to see the new life that will be breathed into this section and all the new memories that will be made, but I am as equally excited to find out what horse lived here and what young lady bought the pink tack box and won all these amazing ribbons. What horse won these show and grazed on this amazing section?

Until I find out I wanted to share with you some of the pictures that the new family allowed me to take and share with you all a piece of history in our neighborhood. I know this old barn is in good hands and I cant wait to see the transformation, but for now here is what it is.

(Special thanks to Rosina Dewar for making this happen. Rosina, you are a huge reason this neighborhood thrives and we love you!)
