Easter DIY's to make you smile!
This year Easter is going to be a little different! I usually have a big easter egg hunt, lots of family over, a few games and a big brunch…. and of course lots of treat!
Since we are being good and staying quarantined, I won’t be having my big Easter Egg hunt with all the family over. But… I will still make some carrot cake and create some fun Easter crafts. I would love to share them with you. They are easy enough for you to do with the kids or grandkids right at home for a little easter fun.
This year I am making the carrot cake as a loaf and then using the left over batter for some super cute cupcakes for the kids. Here is where the original idea came from for the cupcakes, I couldn’t resist how adorable these little white chocolate bunnies for toppers were! I just love them and they were super easy!
I like to try new recipes each year as each one tastes a little different than the other. This year I am trying a carrot cake recipe from The Gourmet Gourmand (AKA The Blog of The Fancy Food Loving Fatso), I couldn’t resist her little carrot decorations, they drew me in! She doesn’t like nuts in her cake and I do, but I’m open to trying it and seeing how it tastes. It was moist, delicious and just the right amount of spice, so this recipe is a keeper!
(Last year I did a three layer carrot cake, for the recipe click here)
Here is a glimpse our little party from last year,
maybe you and your immediate family can incorporate some of these ideas?
You could totally still do an easter egg hunt in your home or back yard if you have littles, but my last son still at home is now 13 and did not want an easter egg hunt…LOL!!! But he won’t turn down Easter bunny shaped cinnamon rolls…. so I will surprise him with those Easter morning. For a great cinnamon roll recipe click this link from last years homemade cinnamon rolls.
Ok now for a few crafts. I literally needed to just use what I had around the house, so this is what I came up with… I had bought way to many eggs when COVID-19 hit so I had plenty of cartons and eggs for that matter, so when I started baking I saved my egg shells for this project. I just hit the top of the egg with a knife and then just peeled back the shell about a quarter of the way down.
Once I had enough empty shells to fill half of my carton with eggs,I grabbed my left over candle making supplies and filled up these cute little eggs with melted wax. I added some aroma therapy drops called JOY, but you can add any scent you love to the melted wax or just leave them plain.
Once the wax is solid I cut the wicks, painted the outside pf the carton the only color I had in my cupboard (mealy white). I cut some fake flowers from my dinning room centerpiece to put in the empty egg spots and then I just made a little verse on my computer, printed it out and taped it inside the cover flap of the egg carton. Then I embellished the box with some Easter garland I had from last year. It could be just as cute with just some ribbon.
Ok last craft… Brown Easter Sacks!!!
These are so cute and fun for the littles… You could stick easter eggs inside or candy, of even just a sweet little note. I happen to have a few boxes of spring seedlings, so that is what I put in my Easter Bags.
But literally all you need is to take three brown paper sacks, cut a V out at the top and hot glue on an easter bunny tail (I used a cotton ball) and then add anything you want in your sack, then tie a ribbon about half way. I used the rest of my garland I had. Then there you have a it…. a cute little bunny bag! So easy and festive.
Ok well that’s it for Easter this year and church will be online… but its still been fun and now I am feeling festive again. Happy Easter all! Hope you enjoy your family and time together inside.
